Wooden supporting structure and photovoltaic plant

Flughafen Zürich AG is planning the construction of a new cargo hangar owing to the age of the current West and Central cargo hangars (which were built in 1958 and 1960, respectively) and to enable it to continue to meet demand. This new build will also take into account the changing requirements of the modern cargo business, which is seeing an increase in the transportation of smaller and drastically different types of goods.

The new Rächtenwisen cargo hangar will cover an area of around 7,600 m2 and provide 20 docking ramps for trucks. It will also feature areas for handling processes, import and export processes, pharmaceuticals and hazardous goods, customs inspections and security checks. A mezzanine floor housing office and ancillary areas is also planned for the southern side of the building.

Rächtenwisen cargo hangar is intended to be used as a cargo handling and storage area and is planned to be constructed landside. People and vehicles will be able to access the airport's sensitive security area through a new security check gate.

The cargo hangar will be constructed using concrete pillars with a wooden supporting structure. There are also plans to install a photovoltaic system on the roof.

Rächtenwisen cargo hangar will be leased and used by dnata Switzerland AG, a ground handling service provider.
