This tour offers visitors an insight into various areas of aircraft maintenance. The group will be accompanied by an experienced guide throughout.
The guide will meet the group at Arrival 2. First, the group will pass through the security check. A bus will await the visitors at Observation Deck B and take them to the main building of SR Technics. In the main building, a jet engine and an aircraft engine are on display. The visitors can find out how these are constructed, what materials they are made of and exactly how they work.
Next, the group will head to the engine test facility. In this building, various tests are conducted, to see if an engine has been damaged by birds, for example.
Next, the group will visit the SR Technics workshop where countless individual parts are tested, cleaned and assembled. The guide will explain to the group what the parts are needed for, what materials they are made of and what the inspectors have to look out for in particular. In another part of the workshop, the engines are subsequently assembled. The individual parts are collected and put together. The visitors can watch how this is done and discover how each stage of the procedure is checked.
Another highlight of this tour is a visit to Hangars 1, 2 and 3, where large and light aircraft are overhauled. Hangars 2 and 3 are operated by SWISS Maintenance. Hangar 3 is an impressive structure with space for up to four large planes. The visitors can look at the aircraft up close and find out a wealth of interesting information from the guide. Hangar 3 is the final stop on the tour. From here, the group will be bussed back to the observation deck where the tour ends.
Tours of SR Technics and SWISS Maintenance may vary slightly from the programme set out here. Depending on the maintenance work being carried out at the time, the guides may adapt the tour to show the group particularly interesting tasks. Sometimes there is enough time to visit the landing-gear workshop or auxiliary equipment workshop as well. Tours of SR Technics and SWISS Maintenance involve over two hours' walking.
