A total of 38’542 tons of freight were transported at Zurich Airport during the month of November. This represents an increase in freight volume of 39.5% compared to last year. Compared to November 2019, freight volume decreased by 1.6%.

Christmas holiday outlook

Flughafen Zürich AG still expects a total of approximately 10 million passengers in 2021. This represents around one third of 2019 volumes. Due to the pandemic and the short-term booking behaviour of passengers, a detailed forecast of traffic during the upcoming Christmas holiday period is not possible.

For the return journey to Switzerland, all travellers currently require a negative PCR test. 4 to 7 days after their return, they must test again (PCR or antigen rapid test). As a result, Switzerland currently has one of the strictest testing programs in Europe. Zurich Airport therefore welcomes changes proposed by the Federal Council that vaccinated and recovered persons are only required to test once prior to entry. The airport also advocates that vaccinated and recovered persons from European destinations may enter the country without testing as soon as possible.
