Periodic measurement flights in August and September

Summary

From 29 August to 2 September 2022 , the periodic measurement flights for the inspection of the navigation systems will take place at Zurich Airport. Flights take place exclusively in the afternoon.

Between 29 August and 2 September 2022, the instrument landing systems (ILS and GBAS) of the various runways and the Kloten rotary radio beacon (VOR KLO) will be tested with a measuring aircraft. The measurement flights take place exclusively in the afternoon, as only a reduced program is required.

In order to ensure the accuracy of the navigation systems, they are periodically tested. For the inspection, approaches from the side, above and below the published flight path are required. For this reason, some of the measurement flights also take place off the usual flight paths. The respective runway is approached several times for measurement purposes. The signals received by the aircraft from the corresponding navigation systems are recorded and evaluated.

A twin-engine Beechcraft King Air 350 propeller aircraft will be used for the measurement flights. The aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation aids and a high-precision flight survey device. Skyguide is responsible for the planning and execution of the flights.
