WEF: Fewer additional flight movements expected at Zurich Airport

Summary

After two and a half years of interruption, the World Economic Forum (WEF) is taking place again in Davos. For the conference, numerous guests from business, politics and society will travel via Zurich Airport. Overall, fewer additional flight movements are expected during the WEF days than in previous years.

This year's World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos begins on Sunday, 22 May 2022, and lasts until and including Thursday, 26 May 2022. In the days before, during and after the WEF, additional flight movements of business jets and state aircrafts are expected. This year, the number of additional take-offs and landings is expected to be around a third lower. In the past, around 1,000 additional flight movements have been recorded. There will also be an increase in political and safety-relevant helicopter transports and thus increased noise emissions. However, the total number of helicopter movements will also be lower than in previous years, as there will be no civilian helicopter movements to Davos.

Limited number of stands

Reserved stands are available for delegations that have already been registered, which are allocated according to the size of the aircraft. The machines of the other WEF guests receive time slots of a maximum of two hours for loading and unloading. After that, they have to leave Zurich Airport and switch to an airport of their choice. The Dübendorf airfield will again be served directly by numerous aircraft.

Observation deck B with longer opening hours

For aviation fans and interested parties, the regular visitor offers at and around Zurich Airport are available – such as the spotter site at Heligrill on the west side of Zurich Airport, the spotter site Oberglatt in the north or the observation deck B. It will open daily from 8:00 to 20:00 from 20 to 27 May 2022 (instead of 10:00 to 18:00).
