Zauberpark music and lights festival delights young and old
From 25 November until 12 December 2021, the Airport Park was host to the Zauberpark music and lights festival for the first time. The Zauberpark welcomed some 28,000 visitors over 18 days. Zürcher Kantonalbank is the presenting partner of Zauberpark.
From 25 November until 12 December 2021, the Airport Park at the Circle was transformed into an open-air festival site. Over 18 days, top-calibre stars from the Swiss music scene and children’s acts performed on the big stage. Light installations along the panorama route transformed the park into a magical world for visitors, while a number of restaurateurs provided tasty treats in the “connoisseurs village”. The Zauberpark is an experience for both young and old, families and friends, music fans and culture vultures, and is an ideal location for Advent drinks receptions and Christmas parties.

We’re very pleased with the first edition of the Zauberpark. Despite the pandemic, some corporate events being cancelled and unfortunately mainly bad weather with rain and some snow, some 28,000 visitors came to the Zauberpark and were amazed. We firmly believe that the combination of music, light art and food in a unique atmosphere will continue to be successful and are already really looking forward to the 2022 edition.

We are delighted that the Zauberpark could take place for the first time despite the pandemic. The feedback from our guests has been positive overall. We have definitely achieved our aim of offering the public an experience that will leave a lasting memory.

A varied programme was also compiled for the youngest guests. The following children's acts appeared in the early evening before the concerts: Andrew Bond, Switzerland's most successful children's musician; storyteller, actress and musician Carmen Lopes Sway as “Tante Carmen”; children’s singer/songwriter Sarah Lauper; magician and ventriloquist Dan White; Swiss rapper Knackeboul as “Knäcki”; and Zurich storytelling duo “Minitheater Hannibal”, who put a new spin on well-known fairy tales and stories.
Light art in the park
The light installations curated by No Ordinary Art Lab AG (NOA) delighted visitors. In 2021, the organisers opted for a “best-of” selection of light art from the Zauberwald Lenzerheide, including several new pieces created especially for the Zauberpark. All light installations were located close to the panorama route, which takes around 30–45 minutes to walk depending on time spent at each installation. The constellation on the sky platform – the highest point in the park – met with considerable enthusiasm: Visitors could go into the 3-tonne dome, which was brought to life by 500 metres of LEDS. The constantly changing light patterns and accompanying music were the subject of a lot of social media posts in particular. The guardian angels sponsored by the Stiftung Denk an mich foundation were extremely popular: The 30 angels were made by young people with cognitive impairments from machTheater, who also lent the angels their voices. Visitors could hear the young people’s wide range of answers to the question of what guardian angels mean to them. The sponsor of the guardian angels was Swiss leisure travel airline Edelweiss. Another light installation with a clear message was the “Wings for Life” wings. Charitable foundation Wings for Life has set itself the goal of finding a cure for paraplegia. The wings light installation invited visitors to become part of the artwork, take a photo of themselves and carry the message #wingsforlife out into the world interactively. The sponsor of the Wings for Life was Circle tenant SAP.
Zauberwald Lenzerheide – Zauberpark Zurich
The initiators of the Zauberwald Lenzerheide developed a completely new festival concept in December 2013 with the combination of light art, food and music. This festival for the senses in the mountains has been continuously developed ever since. Together with Flughafen Zürich AG, the Zauberwald was staged as a Zauberpark at Zurich Airport for the first time in 2021. The Zauberwald in Lenzerheide is open from Friday, 10 December until Christmas.
