Diese News ist nur in Englisch verfügbar.
The airport operator Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) has entered into a joint venture with the Brazilian Camargo Corrêa Group for the construction and operation of airports in Latin America. With this milestone, Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) aims to strengthen its position in this market and to establish a basis for further growth in Central and South America.
On the basis of a joint venture, Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG), together with the Brazilian Camargo Corrêa Group, has created the company A-Port with domicile in São Paulo (Brazil). Unique will be a minority shareholder with 15 percent interest in A-Port, which will invest in the construction and operation of airports as well as in airport related infrastructures in Latin America. The Chilean company Gestion e Ingenieria S.A. (IDC), with which Unique (Flughafen Zürich) operates the Chilean airports Puerto Montt, La Serena and Calama as well is involved in management contracts for the operation of airports in Colombia and Honduras, will take another 5 percent interest in A-Port. These projects will also be brought into the joint venture. The financial investment of Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) amounts to roughly two million US dollar.
The experience and the financial possibilities of the Camargo Corrêa Group complement ideally with the know-how of Unique (Flughafen Zürich) and IDC in the operation of airports. The objective of the three partners is to list parts of the shares of A-Port at the stock exchange of São Paulo after a starting period of three five years.
Beat Spalinger, CFO Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) and responsible for the international airport activities states: "the joint venture with Camargo Corrêa Group is an important milestone for our international activities in Latin America. Together with our partner IDC, we are already today well represented in this market. With the joint venture with Camargo, we can now penetrate the market even more, especially Brazil".
The aviation sector in Latin America has seen a strong growth in the last years. In particular in Brazil it is expected that the market will open, especially since Brazil as host of the Football World Cup 2014 will have to modernize its airport infrastructure.
Camargo Corrêa Group is a Brazilian conglomerate in family property. The group employs approximately 30'000 staff and is one of the largest private companies in Brazil with annual revenue of over five billion Swiss francs. Originally founded as a construction company, the group later diversified into several sectors. Today Camargo Corrêa Group possesses various concessions in the sectors energy, roads, railways and ports, and is also involved in consumer goods. Different subsidiaries, in particular CPFL, which is active in the energy sector, and CCR, which is active in the sector of road concessions, are partly listed at the stock exchange. Camargo Corrêa Group has set itself high standards in corporate governance and is run, even though in family property, like a stock listed company.
Unique (Flughafen Zürich AG) is involved outside Switzerland in the construction and operations of ten airports in India, Chile, Honduras and Colombia. These engagements are always entered into with strong local partners.
