Political and legal framework

It is vitally important to the federal government that Zurich Airport runs smoothly and efficiently. The Canton of Zurich also emphasises the importance of a high-performing intercontinental airport in Switzerland for society and the economy.

Federal government

Aviation is a matter reserved for the federal government (see Art. 87 of the Federal Constitution). The importance of Zurich as an intercontinental airport is reinforced by the federal government on numerous occasions in its aviation policy report, a white paper governing aviation in Switzerland.
