Doing business sustainably –out of conviction

It is only by running our business sustainably that we will be able to create long-term shareholder value.

Our commitment to sustainability

We take our governance, environmental and social responsibilities seriously and are working to create a sustainable Zurich Airport.

  • Our business activities are aligned with the principles of the United Nations Global Compact and contribute towards the UN’s sustainable development goals.
  • We reduce our environmental impacts and improve our environmental efficiency above and beyond statutory and regulatory requirements. We aim to reduce our own greenhouse gas emissions to net zero without offsetting by 2040.
  • We provide a fair, attractive and safe environment for employees, partners and customers and we engage in broad-based dialogue with our neighbours.

The UN Global Compact

The company became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact in 2021. This underscores our ongoing commitment to human rights along with socially and environmentally responsible corporate governance. We affirm the ten principles set out in the UN Global Compact in the key areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption. The integrated report details how we contribute to upholding these principles within our sphere of influence.

Our contribution to the global sustainable development goals

The United Nations Agenda 2030 is intended to secure sustainable development at an economic, environmental and social level. At its heart are 17 defined sustainable development goals (SDGs). By doing business responsibly, Zurich Airport Ltd. is also contributing to attainment of the SDGs. It has chosen to focus in particular on six of these goals where it believes it can make an especially valuable contribution. The company is also contributing to the achievement of another nine of the goals as well, making a total of 15 goals where it aims to make a difference (see diagram).

The illustration shows the Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs for short, to which Flughafen Zürich AG is contributing. Nine further SDGs are shown in the outer circle: No poverty, Life on land, Life below water, Peace and strong institutions, Sustainable consumption and production, Reduced inequalities, Affordable and clean energy, Clean water and sanitation, and Partnerships to achieve the goals.
