The economic importance of the airport was examined in a study.

Economic importance –study
Economic importance of civil aviation in Switzerland’ for the year 2024
The Infras study commissioned by the FOCA concludes that civil aviation generates direct added value of CHF 9.8 billion and 49,000 jobs (full-time equivalents). This includes all companies operating at Switzerland's three national airports or closely linked to flight operations. A separate calculation of direct and indirect effects, as calculated in the studies on Zurich Airport, was not carried out. In addition, Switzerland has a high level of international accessibility thanks to civil aviation. The national airports of Zurich, Geneva and Basel are important platforms for international connections. Amongst all, the region of Zurich has the highest accessibility in Europe.
Flughafen Zürich AG commissioned Infras to conduct a study on the economic importance of Zurich Airport in 2022. The study examines Zurich Airport’s direct and indirect effects on employment and its contribution to value creation. In addition, the study includes a Covid-19 adjusted scenario as well as the calculation of the isolated value added generated by the Circle and the importance of air freight for exports. The accessibility and relevance of the airport for Swiss tourism was the subject of a wider study by Infras and BAK Basel in 2017.
