Autonomous shuttle for personnel – airside
Interaction with WeRide
The pilot project would not be possible without strong collaboration and cooperation at many levels. Following a tender process, WeRide was selected as the technology provider, being one of the industry leaders in the field of automated driving. WeRide possesses a mature and extensively tested technology, meets all legal and safety requirements of Zurich Airport and guarantees compliance with the high data protection standards of Flughafen Zürich AG. The RoboBus in operation at Zurich Airport has already been successfully tested by WeRide and its European partner Renault in Parisian traffic and in other projects worldwide. For the tender process, Zurich Airport Ltd worked closely with the Swiss Transit Lab (STL),a competence network for smart mobility in Switzerland.
Strong collaborations
The pilot project is led by the ZRH Innovation Hub. However, this would not have been possible without the active support of numerous colleagues from various specialist departments. We thus benefit from valuable expertise in many areas, such as cybersecurity, data protection, safety & security and cloud services – to name only a few. We also rely on strong partners for operations. In addition to colleagues
from Flughafen Zürich AG’s own bus service, Swissport and Krummen & Kerzers are supporting us in operating the shuttle buses. Insights into the future of automated vehicles. The pilot project enables us to gain important insights into the deployment of autonomous technologies and thus to develop a comprehensive set of regulations for the safe and efficient operation of self-driving vehicles. Flughafen Zürich AG is working closely with other airports such as Brussels and Amsterdam, which are also testing technologies for automated vehicles, to develop such forward-looking mobility solutions.
Data Protection
In accordance with EU and Swiss data protection regulations, all data collected by autonomous vehicles must be anonymised and treated as strictly confidential. These measures ensure that personal information is neither disclosed, misused nor stored inappropriately. Users can therefore be confident that their privacy is protected when interacting with AV services.
