On this fascinating tour, you will learn about the many different aspects that ensure that an airport runs safely and smoothly. From impressive winter service vehicles to state-of-the-art maintenance facilities, you will gain exclusive insights into the day-to-day operations of an airport. Your experienced tour guide will provide you with interesting facts and details about various aspects of airfield maintenance throughout the tour.

The tour begins at the tour ticket office on Observation Deck B. After a short introduction, you will take the shuttle bus to the winter service facility. From there, you will continue on foot and view the impressive collection of winter service vehicles that are responsible for snow clearance and de-icing of the runways and taxiways. These vehicles are true giants and ensure the safe operation of the airport, even in extreme weather conditions. This is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the challenges of airport maintenance in winter. The tour takes you to various important stations, to experience first-hand how complex and diverse airport maintenance is.

The water treatment plant ensures the smooth operation of the airport grounds. This plant is crucial for the care and maintenance of the airport grounds. Another fascinating facility is the sprinkler system, responsible for watering the airport surfaces.
The disposal of materials generated from airport operations is also an important part of airport maintenance. You will gain an insight into the waste management that helps to protect the environment and comply with regulations.

Another exciting part of the tour is the airport lighting. You will be shown how the airport's various lighting and signalling systems assist aircraft, even in difficult visibility conditions or at night.
After a good hour of in-depth exploration, you will return to the starting point of the tour. The shuttle bus will take you back to Observation Deck B, where the tour ends.

The inner Check-in Services right-of-way is located directly in front of the two terminals at Zurich Airport. The Check-in Services zone is used for unloading or loading airport tour guests. Access for buses on the outer right-of-way is prohibited. Access to this zone is via the barrier entrance marked as private on the inner Check-in Services right-of-way. Guests may be unloaded or loaded at the end of the Check-in Services zone. While guests are on the airport tour, the waiting room (P12-300) is available. Guests of the airport tour can be invited back to the Check-in Services zone after the tour.
