Christmas travels at Zurich Airport

Summary

The days around Christmas and New Year’s Eve are popular travel days. Therefore, Flughafen Zürich AG expects an increased volume of passengers. They can help to ensure that their journey starts as relaxed as possible. Zurich Airport also offers a wide variety of holiday activities for all those who do not travel.

The days at the end of the year are often used for visiting family and friends, as well as for vacation and leisure travel. The peak day with around 90,000 passengers is expected on 22 December. As Check-in 1 is partially closed during the winter months due to extensive construction work on the baggage carousels, passengers are advised to note the check-in changes. Tips for travel preparations

To start the journey as relaxed as possible, passengers are advised to prepare well before arriving at the airport. This includes the following:

  • Online check-in or - if possible - check-in the day before  and ensure in advance that you are aware of the airline's regulations regarding bulky baggage, such as skis or musical instruments.

  • Lufthansa Group passengers (Lufthansa, SWISS, Edelweiss, Austrian and Brussels) as well as Chair passengers have access to the self-bag drop machines.

This applies in particular to batteries, liquids, fireworks, lighters, e-cigarettes and avalanche backpacks. Christmas gifts and culinary specialties containing liquids  should be stowed in checked baggage. A search function can be found on the airport website.
